Scottish Seabird Centre Wildlife Tour

Last week, students from Prestonpans took part in a wildlife tour through the Scottish Seabird Centre.

To start the day, students enjoyed lunch outdoors and visiting the lobster hatchery, where they were surprised by how small lobsters started. The students then went on to learn how to use binoculars before touring various spots looking for different species of birds, Bass Rock and to look out for dolphins and whales.

Following this, students went rock pooling with the Seabird Centre guides showing the group what to look for. They discovered anemones, hermit crabs, shrimp and baby starfish, and learned more about these creatures. Everyone in the group had the opportunity to hold a crab and release it into the sea – impressing the Seabird Centre staff with their respectful approach to handling sea creatures.

We were delighted that this trip was accessible to all students, with the second group making use of the beach wheelchairs. A big thank you to the Seabird Centre and the staff who led out student’s tour – we recommend visiting!
