Opening of service for critical care

From Monday 27th July we will be running a service from Links House for students in need of critical care. We will be getting in touch with these students by the end of today. We look forward to seeing some of you again soon. We have been working hard behind the scenes to prep our building for the reopening. Our staff have also undertaken training on COVID-19 in the workplace and will familiarise themselves with our risk assessments and standard operating procedures in line with COVID-19.

A few quick reminders for our return:

Social Distancing – whenever possible we should be keeping a 2-meter distance between ourselves and others. We have laid our workshops out to ensure distancing between students.

Hand Hygiene – it is hugely important to wash your hands thoroughly throughout the day (e.g. when you arrive at Upmo, before & after eating, going to the bathroom, after coughing or sneezing etc.). We have placed automated hand sanitisers around the building in all workshops, by entries and exits etc. Team Leaders and Upmo staff will be giving everyone regular reminders to wash or sanitise their hands throughout the day.

Catch it, bin it, kill it – if you cough or sneeze you should do this into a tissue, throw the tissue away and wash your hands thoroughly. If you do not have a tissue this should be done into the crook of your arm. Upmo have provided tissues and bins in all areas for everyone’s use whilst at Upmo.

PPE – if staff cannot maintain a 2-meter distance from students they will be wearing apron, gloves and fluid resistant mask. Staff may also wear a visor during personal care or feeding. Students do not need to wear masks, however, please do wear one if you feel comfortable to do so.

Cleaning – we have a professional cleaning company who have done a deep clean of Links House for our reopening including a fogging of all areas. Upmo is being cleaned thoroughly at the end of each day by cleaning professionals. Team Leaders have clear cleaning rotas to use during the day to ensure all high touch points are disinfected regularly. As well as all staff having access to disinfectant in workshops etc. to ensure we maintain good hygiene.

Feeling unwell – if you display any of the following symptoms DO NOT come into Upmo: loss of sense of smell or taste, high temperature, persistent cough. If you display these symptoms do not come into Upmo, seek medical advice immediately as you may be required to get tested.  Call 111 or you can get a self-referral test here: https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/antigen/name
